The National Union of Press Professionals of Côte d’Ivoire (SYNAPPCI) learned with dismay and great sadness, the arrest of journalist Alex Yao Hallan of the PDCI 24 TV media, on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, at the home of President Henri Konan Bédié, at the same time as certain Ivorian opposition officials.
Our comrade was in the exercise of his functions and even declined his identity as a journalist.
In view of the above, the National Union of Press Professionals of Côte d’Ivoire (SYNAPPCI)
❖ Protests against this malicious way of proceeding and demands his immediate release, so that he can continue his mission of informing the public.
❖ Expresses its support and solidarity to all workers and the editorial team of PDCI 24 TV during this difficult period.
❖ Encourages all solidarity initiatives towards the comrade, with a view to obtaining his release as soon as possible.
❖ Calls on all players in the Ivorian press to take collective initiatives to participate in this momentum of solidarity.
❖ Calls on President Alassane OUATTARA, the public prosecutor, ADOU Richard, and all other public authorities on the imperative need to protect journalists and all other media professionals in the accomplishment of their mission of providing information for all . And that more generally, journalists and local and foreign media professionals be protected from attacks and violations of their rights as we have seen for some time, and this, in accordance with the law and commitments international taken by our country.
Reminds journalists and media professionals of the need to always remain professional in the research, collection and processing of information and encourages them to remain united and firm in the defense of press freedom and their own security, wherever they are.
